Note: Stainless Steel, FRP, Wood, and Concrete materials are all preferred over galvanized steel. Since 1990 EPA restrictions have eliminated the use of chemicals that were previously applied to protect galvanizing.

        Counterflow Cooling Tower

Advantages -  The leading edge of the fill is constantly rinsed which minimizes scale formation. The basin area is easy to clean. The basin stays cleaner due to minimal sunlight intrusion. This tower style requires less algaecide use than a crossflow cooling tower.

Disadvantages - Poor water treatment will allow spray nozzles to plug. The tower must be off-line to clean the nozzles.

Counterflow

 We recommend counterflow cooling towers for longer service life and reduced maintenance.

Crossflow Cooling Tower

Advantages - The tower hot deck nozzles are easy to clean. Hot deck water depth can be used to calculate water flow in gpm.

Disadvantages - The fill is very prone to scale formation on the leading edge of the fill where evaporation to dryness occurs constantly. Outer basin area is very prone to algae growth due to abundant sunlight on basin floor. The basin area below the fill is hard to clean.
